More specifically we have a variety of products and services which will provide greater reliability and a higher level of knowledge about reliability to our customers. Our core theme is that there are two ways to increase quality of maintenance and therefore the reliability of equipment:

Every CBM program should continuously assess its own performance.
  1. by improving the quality, management and skills of the technician (this is done by training – see our section on Training Courses)
  2. by improving the information available to the technician (this is done by a variety of tools improving the quality of the Work Order and the related analysis – see our section on Products

OMDEC Customers

OMDEC’s customers are typically those who are striving to make advances in the quality and effectiveness of their maintenance and to improve reliability. Typically they will have a high cost of breakdown and want therefore to reduce failure and increase reliability. Mining, chemicals, oil and gas, transportation, military, pulp and paper, pharmaceuticals, manufacturing companies for example.

OMDEC Technology

The core of our technology is Exakt – a statistical modelling software package that predicts failures (– see our section on Products). But we have expanded well beyond that into a range of complementary products and services designed to specifically target reliability, failure prediction and failure reduction.

OMDEC’s Go-To-Market Strategy

OMDEC expects to continue a blend of direct selling and selling through regional and local VAR’s. Because increasingly we need to think globally, but act locally, the local services provided to the customers by our VAR’s are critical to the continued expansion and profitability of the company. For that reason, our policy is to support and encourage VAR’s to increase the quality and profitability of their businesses. New ideas, new opportunities and new products are always being sought – our VAR’s and our customers are key to our knowledge base. We expect to reward outstanding VAR’s in an outstanding manner.

OMDEC is dedicated to the highest quality of products and the highest quality of service to the end user customer. We require our VAR’s to support us in this.

At the same time, because of the advanced nature of the work we do, active support from our home base is equally important. Hence our key staff are inveterate globetrotters – working on-site with our customers in Argentina, Australia, Columbia, Indonesia, the Middle East, and yes, even in Canada.

OMDEC’s Origins

Although a young company (founded in 2002), the foundations of OMDEC lie in the Condition Based Maintenance labs at the University of Toronto. Professor Andrew Jardine – well known as an author of high quality books and articles on various aspects of reliability (see our books section) – lead the conception and development of the software that is OMDEC’s flagship product. R&D on the product is continuing both within OMDEC and at the Lab – thus providing a very fertile source of leading edge ideas.

The Ontario Government’s Ontario Centres of Excellence acted as the catalyst in creating and launching OMDEC; both they and Dr Jardine continue to be actively involved in OMDEC.
