EXAKT Tutorial 4
Random fluctuation of monitored condition data characterizes many otherwise straight-forward CBM applications. In this exercise we use data from pressure tests, which reflects the deterioration of a sealing system, in a nuclear fuel rod manipulating mechanism.

An optimized policy for the interpretation of inspection data from a CBM program at a nuclear reactor station
Hydro-dyne seals perform an important function in some CANDU type nuclear reactors. During refueling, they seal the connection between the fuelling machine and the end fitting of the reactor fuel channels, preventing the leakage of heavy water from the reactor. At a nuclear power plant 4 reactors employ 8 hydro-dyne sealed refueling mechanisms...

A survey of signal processing and decision technologies for CBM
Hundreds of theoretical and practical research papers on CBM appear every year in scientific journals, conference proceedings and technical reports. In this chapter we provide an overview of recent developments in the diagnostocs and prognostics of systems.

Interview with Andrew Jardine
Q: Professor Jardine, why did you develop EXAKT?
A: Condition based maintenance is the most desirable form of maintenance, yet, former students, now maintenance professionals, told me that they find often that their current CBM programs, such as oil analysis, don’t deliver the intended results. I asked how “exactly” their staff interpreted condition monitoring data. In other words, how did they decide whether or not to remove an item for repair? Their answers led me to investigate whether a more rigorous decision methodology might improve the payback on the rather large investment they were making in condition based maintenance.

Optimization of Bellis & Morcom 3rd-stage piston ring CBM model
This report is an evaluation of EXAKT at a steel mill. The discussion focuses on data collection and manipulation. A brief discussion on the capability and usefulness of EXAKT is also included in the conclusion. The objective was to determine whether EXAKT could be effectively utilized in a commercial manufacturing environment to improve the results obtained with current (PM) models.

Optimizing condition-based maintenance decisions for vibration monitored bearings
We report the development of an optimal maintenance program based on vibration monitoring of critical bearings on machinery in the food processing industry. Statistical analysis of vibration data is undertaken using the software package EXAKT to establish the key vibration signals that are necessary for risk estimation.

CBM (on-condition maintenance) benefits analysis
We should compare the cost effectiveness of an existing maintenance policy with that of a proposed new one, in order to project the benefits of proceeding with that proposed policy. By a policy in CBM we mean, how we will define and declare a potential failure...

Optimizing a Condition Based Maintenance Program with Gearbox Tooth Failure
The EXAKT CBM optimizing methodology was applied to a set of experimental condition data measurements in order to develop an optimal interpretation process or policy. An optimal policy is a procedure for data interpretation, which, if applied consistently in a CBM program, minimizes the cost of maintenance of a physical asset or maximizes its availability...

Can RCM (Reliability Centered Maintenance) and Streamlined RCM peacefully co-exist?

Thinking RCM ( Reliability Centered Maintenance)
When attempting to maintain a large industrial facility we face a complex challenge. We search yet rarely discover a single silver bullet capable of subduing the beast.

Why PHM? Incorporating Covariates in Weibull Analysis
Low failure probabilities are critical factors in business decisions when high costs are incurred due to the consequences of failure. In these circumstances intensive data analysis efforts are employed to assess probabilities of failure. Weibull analysis is commonly used to analyze data, especially in cases where the propensity of failure increases with time and use...
